Last I heard from him he said he was going on a short holiday.
It was June 26th, 2010. I quote his very words:
Hi,

About to make 2 3-day trips on holliday. I'll check it later.
Thanks!

Albadaran.
Did he just say I-go-buy-the-cigarettes-honey and abandoned me??
Damn he never signed the prenuptial agreement either...

-----

Better stop before uninformed readers assume that I am serious.
But really -- I have not heard from him since.
I imagine he does not care about NWN or his module anymore.

With so much time passing and now the NWVault is gone, the history of NWN is in danger of fading away.

In that vein, several posts below Simon said:

>>>>

Now that the project has ended I will send a copy of the mod to those who contributed either with scripting or giving advice. For now copies will be send by mail to:

Gray Fox
NOVA
Lord Atton

Others who like to obtain a copy can post here, and mention your mail adres.

As stated before, the mod will not be distributed on an internet site. I ask everyone tho recieves a copy to keep it for personal use only. Host a game if you like, but do not distribute it.

Well, despite having suffered TWO hard drive crashes nearly back to back, I was unbelievably fortunate to actually find an archived copy of this excellent module. So with the passage of so much time, I was wondering if Simon might perhaps have changed his mind and maybe he was now willing to distribute his "Allods and Legends" module to anyone who might want a copy of it?

But until/unless he gives express permission, I'm not going to send it anywhere or to anyone (so don't bother asking). Just know that I do have a copy (and maybe Simon even lost his originals). It would be a shame for this gem to be lost to the ravages of time!!!

The idea is interesting. I agree with the Gray Fox that such a project needs to be planned. What kind of adventure? For whom? What game engine?

For now I am taking a break. Modding is very time consuming. There are some other games I'd like to play too. I have bought Dragon Age and Nwn2. And I'll join with Defiant's Christmas hat.

If NOVA and Lord Atton have ideas, open a thread and let us know. I'll follow the discussion. For now: Time to play :)

Was I summoned?

Yes I lurk. I read.
I post if I have things to say.

You have a project? I too had one.
But I surrendered to my inability to draw good areas.
It is a skill I do not possess.

NWN is old, and so played today still.
And it outlives its successor, in spite of the cuter graphics of the latter.
NWN will not die anytime soon. The opposite can be said for NWN 2.

I must say, it has been a period very good for work. It still is.
I have so much more work than before, that I find little time to sit with my pc.
But I can find the time -- if I am motivated.

Here is the catch: you collect a Team That Will Have Finished What They Began, and I do help you with the project (credits also go to Miss Genna for this statement -- bless her).

Every project starts with planning.
The first thing I would like to see is a document that details what you have in mind.
The more details the better.
Be sure you detail the things you consider important, or would like to see them done so badly.
So we can discuss them before we start.

EXCELLENT!!!

Thank you for distributing it. I look forward to checking out what you did (ignore my recent post in the ROM3 section).

I don't suppose you would be interested in collaborating on a brand-new from-scratch NWN module would you? I know the NWN game is old and I know we're probably not the world's best candidates and I know it would probably take an eternity to develop, but I think if a few of us worked together we could produce something quite extraordinary. Working solo, there is no way in hell I would even begin such a project (which is why I modify existing rather than making my own).

I don't know who else would/could contribute to such an endeavor. Gray Fox (if he's still lurking out there) would be a crucial contributor if he were inclined to participate. Between him, you, Lord Atton, and me I think we would have a pretty good core team. Ideally, however, I'd really like to see at least 2-4 more people. I think a team of no less than 6 people (ideally more like 8-10) would be best.

Anyway, I thought I'd throw that out there and see who might be interested. If there's any interest at all, perhaps we could do some preliminary planning before we start recruiting any more team members. A project such as this would have to be hyper organized and planning/coordination would be essential.

Just got my yearly electricity bill. It appears that keeping up a server and another computer for testing took over 850 kwh extra, raising my bill with almost 300 euro... Reason for me to stop this.

In future servers will only be up on request, and only as long as people actually play. That means probably for 3 weeks or so.

I'm sorry if someone had planned to to get to the final quests during the next 2 weeks, but since no one played for weeks now its over.

History will be saved. Message me if you want to play. Conditions are that once the server is empty for 1 week it will close down until someone requests to play again.

Some changes were made:

-All quest items but 1 now drop from certain monsters on Horror questmaps with a 100% chance of dropping.
-The last item drops from Shiro (also 100% chance)
-Shiro has been adjusted so the environment now responds hostile to him, like it was meant to be; He also has less armor and spells.
-Added some healing points on some maps
-And a few minor changes.

Of course all quest items can still be found as random drops from lower level creatures.

Lord Atton:

A few days ago I mailed you on what map you can find quest items (some monsters have a 100% dropchance).

How much time anyone spends is something personal. But with regular play -for me its probably 'normal' to play more, 20 hours a week is nothing for me, I play much more- it should be possible to find quest items on other maps too.

On average I spend about 4 hours a week in correcting what you guys report to me. I spent over 200 hours editing on this mod. Not talking about my own playtesting, but just editing maps and scripts.

To my personal opinion if players play -or call it test- for 1 month, than quit playing, it has nothing to do with time. It's a sign people get bored. So the obvious conclusion is that this mod offers about 1 month interesting gameplay. Not good enough to publish it. And a bit sad, because I spent most of my effort in creating a decent end of the game, which is, to my opinion -MUCH- better than everything else in the game. Basically the real gameplay starts when you reach realms like the Plain of Light.

Although I would regret it if I have to abandon the project after spending so much time on it, I will do it. Those who like the mod enough to continue playing will without a doubt get to the final level and receive a copy of the mod. Those who are bored and don't play at all apperently have no need for it. Flawless logic...

I fnd it interesting when I am asked to help a person and they pay little attention to my comments. Makes me wonder why I would spend my valueable time "Play Testing" a module when the designed does not listen to what I have to say. I also take issue with some of the design. I was give no map of the module or any hint of what it would be like save the First Test Module which I never completed either. I can't help if mistakes are made and I don't know what the designer intent was. Most especially to telliporters. Before someone rips me for my failure to indicate a problem would be nice to have sufficient information about said module.

I have many project that I am involved with. My time is rather limited. 2 hrs a day 5 days a week would be impossible. More likely about 4 to 6 hrs a week if that.

I have a job (my band) and several important projects including my house.
All of these take time. I am alone so I have no one to help me.

My personal business come first next is my house.

Lord Atton mailed me with a request to make some changes in the droprate of items needed to get to the final quest. And/or to keep the server up longer. And to distribute the mod anyway (not depending on finishing the game).

There is a problem I have with this. We have a very small community here. A precious thing which I try to maintain by putting lots of effort in updating maps both for rom2 and nwn. Yet everyone is busy doing his own thing: Nordock, Rhun, a ROM3 project, changing the spell system...

All it needs to complete my mod and get it published is to play for 2 months, 5 days a week, 2 hours a day. Lord Atton claims the mod has been tested. All what happened is that you got to the same point as you were in Spring, and than quit playing. I could have done it the easy way and leave out the endlevel, and let every shop sell the superduper gear... But I want a decent end of the game. And it needs thouroughly playtesting, day by day, to see if the randomdrop system works. If you play like a devil and still don't find the right gear within a month, than you have a point. Want the mod?Than make is so you deserve it!

When I started this project I expected to finish it in 3 or 4 months. It's 10 months now and time to move on to other games and new projects.

Since there is not much participation (2 players) and little feedback I am unable to make this a 'flawless' mod -necessary to publish it. Therefore the mot will NOT be published.

Server will stay online until december 19. Players who are able to get to the final map (Rage's End) will receive a copy of the game. After december 19 the project will be abandonned without further distributing it.

I cannot believe this... Saw both NOVA and Lord Atton on horrorquestmaps and none of them reported that the exit teleporters of this -all- horrorquestmaps tp to the wrong place: Shangri-la instead of Cave of Eternity.

The whole test session is meant to correct this kind of mistakes. If I cannot trust errors and bugs are being reported than the only alternative is to test the module myself step by step, from map 1 to the end. I have neither the time nor the mind for that to do this right now. Which means the module will not be published within shortly...

Excellent updates to the module.

- I see the Eternity Cave quest golems are now named appropriate to their quest map.
- I see you added a trashcan for dumping unwanted items in the Midnight Guard Post.
- I see the added Shield upgrade statue in the Barony of the Doomed. And it upgrades your shield to AC+20 (excellent!). One small issue with the shield statue though, it upgrades your shield but does NOT take the 30,000 xp from your character (in effect you get a FREE upgrade). You might wanna correct that. Goofy phenomenon with all the statues too, after your conversation is compmlete, they all instantly flip 180 degrees and turn their backs to you. Very strange. Does not affect gameplay in any way, just a bizarre visual effect.

Didn't have time to check anything else out yet. I'll report what I find (if anything) later this weekend. You will no doubt notice that the issues I'm reporting anymore are becoming very minor. I think most of the big problems are already solved.

New update:
-Increased number of Omega Forge enhancements to 8.
-Added the shield statue in Barony of the Doomed
-Changed droprate of some monsters who hardly dropped items to the map standards in the Suslanger maps
-Added some new items to the loot list.
-Some small changes to Sareth and Ingos to make leveling a little bit easier.

Things to be done yet: checking language errors; checking horrorquestmaps for playability

Have fun!

OK, my bad on the armor/cloak statue snafu. I guess that's what I get for being in such a hurry, eh?

Good news on the shield statue going on the "wish list". I could really use that AC boost. I'm hoping a few extra AC points will keep those goddam ROM spiders from raping me.

Oh....one more very very minor bug...

The Witch in the Ingos Adventurer's Tavern who gives out gold and xp reward in exchange for dragon blood, there is a typo in her conversation. She says dragondblood. Notice the extra "d" stuck there in the middle between "dragon" and "blood".

That's it.

Ok, the statues work once you have 880,000 xp However, I still have two complaints:

A. I got robbed when I tried to upgrade the Troll Armor. The statue took my 30,000 xp payment but did NOT upgrade the armor.

B. There is no statue for upgrading either your weapon nor your shield. Therefore, there is no way to convert the Rodion Shield (which I would very much like to do since it has +12 AC on it). That would boost my AC by another 4 points.

Meant to post this earlier in the week, but never got around to it....

7. None of the Statues in the Barony of Doom appear to work. They all give me the same message that I need to "come back when I have more experience" and then have a number in parenthesis (-30.000) I'm pretty sure I do have enough XP since I'm capped at level 40 with about 40,000 xp past that. And the message has not changed at all since I was level 37. I think the minus sign in the message may be a clue as to what is going wrong. You may want to take a look at it.

Despite that disappointment, I'm continuing to explore the rest of the module. And speaking of that, this is not really a bug per se, but it sure would make play much nicer....

8. If you could label all the Eternity Quest Golems it would be much easier. For instance, when you hold your cursor over them, they would then at least tell you which quest world they sent you to. Half of them don't even tell you inside their converstations, you just have to go there and find out what map loads before you find out where you're even going. Granted it's a ticky tack issue, but it sure would make play much smoother from the players' side.

One more tidbit to add. The books explaining some of the Eternity Quests (which you have for sale in the Port Suslanger Library)....there is only one set available. The first person to get to those books can buy them and no one else can get them. I'm not sure how to work around that....but you probably want to make it so the library fills back up with an infinite supply of each book.

OK, I zipped home for lunch and grabbed my list. Here it is so far:

1. Trap door in floor of the UZRA shop has a transition zone but it goes nowhere.

2. Giant URN near the Butcher's Dungeon (in Rigel) is selectable, but does nothing.

3. Tower entrance door to the building next to the "Welcome to Ingos Village" sign has a transition but it goes nowhere.

4. Many selectable stones on the ground spread all over the Ingos Mines which are selectable but do nothing.

5. In upper left corner of Ingos Mines at the dead end of a short passage there is a giant boulder stuck in the wall just out of range which is selectable, but you can't reach it (not sure if it does anything or not).

6. There are several pre-made player map notes which have simply "place text here". I have not written them all down, but I have noted two such instances specifically:
A. Midnight entrance to the Ice Blade Hold
B. lower right corner on Sareth entrance to "Wastes of Ingos"

That's it so far. I'll post more if/when I find them.
As I noted previously, these are all likely remnants from the Rhun module which should probably either have something new added to utilize them or simply remove them from the module.

For kicks, I decided to start a new character and build an archer. I tried transferring some gear from my primary character, but all the gear except one item vanished from the map. I only got one item transferred, the rest I lost (which sucks cuz there were a couple really nice unique and powerful items in there).

At any rate, since I had nothing but bad luck transferring, I decieded to build the archer up essentially from scratch instead. By choosing my battles carefully and focussing on power leveling, I was able to zoom to level 20 in about 6 hours of gameplay.

Make of this piece of information whatever you want. You wanted playtest info...there you go. I also have a short list of very very minor flaws which I have been documenting, but I left that list at home. I'll post that later. Most of it consists of text typos, and very minor map stragglers left over from Rhun content that should probably either be utilized for something new or totally removed before you publish the module.

I can't vouch for what the Cave of Eternity quests are like (because I haven't tested them yet except for Rodion) but I have to say I like the rest of the module very much. The improvements you've made since the last playtest are definite improvements in my opinion. The module is a bit more challenging now, though experienced power gamers will almost always find ways to streamline their way to the top of the heap.

Well done with your Allods module !!!

That's it for now.

I got my character to level 26 and made it to the Cave of Eternity after just two days of playtesting. That's pretty fast no matter how you slice it.

It's a shame neither Sareth nor the Zombie Lords on Suslanger drop the expensive gear anymore. Unless there's something I've missed, I think it now becomes a long grind (a week or two at least) constantly farming small monster groups for gold to buy the gear from the merchant in the Cave of Eternity. And even after you have all that stuff, your armor won't have improved nor will your magic or special attack defences have improved very much, so I don't know how survivable the Suslanger Golem quests will be solo. The Allods module may be a rapid rise to high character level followed by a long hard slog or maybe even have to wait for a party of players to show up.

We'll see how it goes from here.

Level 26 fighter and made it to the Cave of Eternity. Sadly, I don't have enough gold to buy much (only have 1.7 million gold). No armor or weapons of worth for sale there, so I'm not sure if the rings/amulet/boots/belt will be enough to survive the quest monsters or not. Will take considerable time to generate the gold as I have not found a font of money yet (the best loot I find sells for about 25-30k only).

Was too tired last night and fell asleep right after getting home from work. Will have to keep playtesting another day....sorry.

There should only be 1 rom5 orc in Sareth, I have corrected this (but not restarted the server yet to activate this) - you now probably won't see him at all unless you are playing in a party.

Server seemed to have rebooted tuesday. Took a while before I noticed.

Let me know your experiences beyond Port Suslanger. Sareth should provide good random loot if you keep killing the monsters. Of course you have to be lucky to let them drop the best :)

BTW...were you aware that you put four of the ROM2 Orcs in the middle of Sareth? These guys smoke everything and everyone in sight, including the Sareth town guards. These guys used to be at the end of the Suslanger mega quest maps. Now they're are four of them smack dab in the middle of Sareth.

Anyway, not sure if this was intentional or accidental, but thought I would point it out. I died the first time cuz all four of them jumped me and I was not smart enough to run (and I didn't expect to find such high level monsters in Sareth). After respawning, I just lured them to the Sareth guards and let the guards keep them busy while I moved on and explored the rest of Sareth in peace. The guards lasted about 3-4 minutes, but eventually lost the fight without ever hitting the ROM2 Orcs even once.

Ok, I don't know what I was smoking a couple days ago....I'm having no problems at all. Just spent just over 4 more hours playing and gained another 10 levels (now level 26 character). I killed Sareth and all her defiled nuns at level 17 and killed Doomdark at level 20 (he's got a nice helmet but it sells for zero gold, now have 3 of them). I also got to Suslanger at level 17, but I see you've removed the merchant and turned it into a quest instead. I spent a bunch of my gold and upgraded my sword at the smith though.

Now that I'm level 26, the xp are pretty much nil. So it looks like I'm going to have to venture out into Suslanger next. Not sure what you may have done to that area, but probably gonna be tough now that you've removed the decent shop. We'll see. I'm tired, so I'll have to check it out tomorrow.

Would love to keep playtesting, but unable to do so if I cannot connect. If it's down intentionally, that's fine. But if it's unintentional, I thought I'd let ya know we can't connect.

Bottom line, have not been able to play except for that first day so far.

Last time I saw you was in Sareth. Sareth is a level 20-30 map. In essence -since this is meant to be a rom2 experience- it means you have to get back to Midnight and Ingos, or alternatively the Butcher dungeon. It will take some time, but nothing compared to Nordock lol!

Basically this is the dilemma between playing solo or in a party. With BB, Lord Atton and me in a party we would probably have no problems at all. Solo is harder now and I'm curious to know where you play and what monsters you can slay.

After one day of play, I have my character up to level 15. Unfortunately, I appear to have hit a bit of a brick wall at this point. The pace of advancement is severely stalled now. I don't have any of the protections necessary to fight the older dragons or the other more powerful creatures and the rewards I'm getting for the monsters I CAN beat are essentially meaningless (very few XP and too little gold to afford the next higher level items, assuming I can even survive to get to the next shops).

I'll have to figure out some way of bypassing these guards if I'm going to keep advancing. And I'll have to figure out a decent source of gold too. The piddly rewards I'm getting now just won't pay my bills. I've already bought almost all of the good equipment available from the shops I can reach and I don't know of any mid-level quest rewards gear that would help me.

At any rate, advance up to level 15 is at rougly a level per hour of play (on average), then it just stalls and you really can't gain any more levels very fast. Not a complaint....just an observation hereby recorded for posterity. I'll let you know if I find a way around this dilemma.

Server up once more with the Legends of the Allods mod. Nova already is far ahead leveling lol!

On the lower levels there are more quests. Like in rom2 you can use tricks to lure some monsters into the guards. At high levels the mod now continues where it stopped in spring. There is a storyline which ends after completing a final quest. Or not? For some this may be the beginning of the fun, who knows :)

I would like to know if someone is able to complete this quest. Other things to test:

-How is it balanced now?
-Flaws in English?
-Old Rhun content (like messages, signs, etc) tell me if its still there.

Have fun and good luck!
