:-(

It went away once -- it can do it _again_.

Maybe there is physical activity you can do (for the legs) that will not hurt your back?
Sports really keep you "in shape" they say.

I think I'm getting better. Progress is so slow now that it's hard to tell.

One bad thing: my spinal nerve was being pinched which caused my right leg to be numb 24/7. One week ago the doctor fixed that and the numbness went away. But now it is back again.

That is not good. And I still cannot sit in a chair. If I do, my legs go numb and my back begins to hurt and it is difficult to walk afterward. It's amazing how much time you spend sitting down during the day (a fact you soon discover when you are unable to sit at all). And I have a desk job. That has not been easy. I kneel in front of my desk all day and now my knees are very sore. If my back ever heals, I will probably have problems with my knees next.

I am actually taking NO medication. Instead, I am simply limiting my activity and actions and attempting to not aggravate the injury (it's remarkably easy to make the injury even worse). The doctor is giving me ultra-sound therapy several times a week. I just got back from session number 3 today. The pain is dramatically reduced from what it was even a week ago. I still cannot sit in a chair for more than 10-15 minutes before pain returns, but at least now I can sit in one at all. Before yesterday I couldn't even sit in a chair. I have knee pads which I brought to work and I simply kneel in front of my computer all day. Yes, my knees are absolutely killing me. I also try to walk about 4 or 5 miles per day. Although it strains my back muscles and I get VERY tired, it does seem to loosen up my back and ease the discomfort. I wind up VERY tired by the evening and I'm sleeping VERY deeply these days.

I still have very limited motion and I have a very hard time putting on my socks or tying my shoe laces (takes me forever). However, rapid progress appears to be happening. The doctor today even used the word "remarkable".

Thank you for your concern.

Albadaran,

You are welcome to use my Spells in your module, so long you know what you "run into".

My previous post was to warn, not to negate, because there is risk that your previous work gets unbalanced by my Spells.
And because you have not seen them in action, the re-balancing may be a hard task.
That is all.

I pack my files and update the instructions for plugin.
In 2 or 3 days you will receive my e-mail.

Gray Fox:
I have little experience in playing magic users. But simular to some ROM2 hats I would like to experience with a mod stocked with items and spells for magic users, and hardly any stuff for warriors. Therefore I thought it a good idea to use your magic system, no matter how little experience I have with playing magic users. Actually I already made a start, so if it is not possible to add your system to an existing mod, than its no longer an option...
But maybe that is a good reason to have a copy here for future projects?

At NOVA,

Poor NOVA, you must be in pain at the smallest movement of your spine :-(
That is horrible. I bet you have trouble to fall asleep too.
I wish you do recover quick -- and without side effects.

------------------------------------------------------------
At Albadaran,

I can send you the most recent version of my Spells.
But there is no source code to look at. I keep that hidden.
And it stays hidden until I complete this project.

And my Spells can not be put in a preexisting module.
Technically they can. But they likely unbalance the module.
Similarly, my Spells can not be used to design any kind of module.
The modder must know firsthand how a spellcaster plays the game, and which spells are useful when.

I am fully familiar with Wizards, Sorcerers, Bards, Clerics, Druids, Paladins, Rangers, Monks, Rogues, Shadowdancers, Arcane Archers, Dwarven Defenders and Shifters.
I know in what they excel, when they peak in power, what are their weak points, and what are their nemesis.
Most of all, I know which spells best work VS them.
And I keep this knowledge in mind as I fix things.
I do not just "modify" scripts. Why do you think this modification is taking me so long?

But I can not make miracles -- Not yet anyway.
The modder must know his share. Or he makes poor design.

I respect your ability to design a module, Albadaran.
But to use my Spells you _must_ be confident with spellcaster classes.
Playing the Fighter and kicking mages, or seeing what they cast at you, is useless.

At least play all the official campaigns with a single-class Wizard.
If you play all quests, you would finish HOTU at level 28.
And no Henchmen to help you, after you hit level 6. And at Normal difficulty.
And no cheats.
This will make you understand lot of things altogether -- and it is fun too.
Lot of subquests are available to Wizards only, did you know?

With all this said, if you want my Spells -> I send you copy.

------------------------------------------------------------
At Lord Atton,

I have been long interested in a crafting system.
The one in NWN is so "plain". I dislike it.

Much more can be done. But all systems need a >>> robust <<< ruleset.
I am already busy with my spells, that is why I am not making one of my own.

_BUT_ if you chart the rules you want, and tell me the details...
... I _DO_ find the time to help you and script the system you want.
I certainly have the skills to do it -- excuse my ego.

Do we have a deal?

If yes, e-mail me to explain your goal and chart the rules and detail the mechanics.
The more info I get, the more precise I can be.

Nova,

Well seems like you have good news and bad news there. I hope you get the treatment you need and recover. That could take some time. I know you won't miss work so much lol. Perhaps you should consider another line of work. One with a whole lot less stress. I suspect stress is at the bottom of this problem.

Take care, get well!

Ok, good news of sorts.

Just got back from the doctor and the x-rays were all negative. I have in fact a case of a partially herniated disc. The discs are the parts between your vertibrae that keep the bones of your spine separated so they don't rub together. They do the same job that cartilage does in the rest of your joints. Well, I partially ruptured one of those discs and fluid from the center of that disc (the synovial fluid) got pressed out and into the disc. Now, that disc is bulging and any time I lean or put pressure on this disc, more fluid is attempting to squeeze out. This bulge is compressing the nearby nerves in my spine. That's the source of my phenomenal pain.

Since it not a full herniated disc, I'm getting ultra-sound treatments followed by physical therapy. The ultrasound is designed to reduce the pain. Once the pain is reduced significantly, then the chiroprator will begin to adjust my spine and attempt to get that fluid to dissolve, be reabsorbed and/or flow back into the center. I'm not sure how long this treatment is supposed to take, but it looks like it's daily cuz he wants me back tomorrow.

The part that sucks, I can't even sit down in a chair. The act of sitting is unbelievably painful and actually further damages my spinal disc. That's going to make work quite difficult since I sit in a chair for 9-10 hours a day.

Anyway, that's the diagnosis. Fortunately not as bad as I was fearing (I was afraid it might have been a totally ruptured or a fully herniated disc or even a crushed vertibrae, all of which apparently mean immediate surgery).

Nova, I hope you will recover soon.

I suppose we continue our private projects than. Btw, I don't have Gray Fox' spell system. But I would like to use it in an experimental 'mages'map. Or series of maps, don't know yet. Can anyone send it to me?

Take care all.

Nova,

I wish you a speedy recovery. I am aware of your injury as you told me about it pretty much after it happend. I know alot depends on what is broken! Getting older is not fun.

As to NWN I agree with Simon and you. We all have different ideas about what is fun and gamming. For example I like Rhun pretty much as it is. I might add something like what Simon did in his elite quests. I do plan to play on his module. Having a number of good server and modules to play on is a benefit. I have played on your Rhun and Simons custom module. Both are very different, but enjoyable. I would like to see Simon publish his module. That of course is up to him. I did get my younger brother and my Nephew to play NWN. I am running Rhun with just a slight mod. Mostly original 1.7 version. I like the idea of a crafting system, but who is going to code it? Modifying the ATS in Nordock could be a nightmare. I don't have an answer. Perhpas Grey Fox has a better idea. I am not the C++ programmer.

I am looking forward to 2010 and what interesting things it will bring.

Take care both of you!

Unfortunately I agree with you Simon. Everyone naturally has different likes/dislikes and opinions. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, in fact it's a good thing. However, we all appear to have radically variant images of the ideal gaming environment, so different as to make it very difficult (perhaps even impossible) to collaborate on a major project. I reluctantly admitted to that conclusion not so long ago (I've known it for a long time but just didn't want to admit to it, hoping somehow that could be overlooked). I have thus abondoned my hope of a grand NWN module project. That's why I returned to modifying Rhun instead (an admitted compromise).

Now for some worse news. I'm potentially out of commission for the forseeable future. About 1 week ago I injured my back and now I am barely able to walk. I am seeking medical attention but so far no real improvement nor a final prognosis. For the first few days after the incident, I was home-bound and unable to even get to my car. Thankfully I had enough food in the house. The dead of winter and sub-zero temperatures is a real bitch of a time to be incapacitated. Even now, I just barely manage to get around though it is excrusiatingly painful and I move ridiculously slowly. You should see me attempt to tie my shoe laces.

I had hoped that it was simply pulled lumbar muscles and for the first few days I did see a slow but gradual improvement in my mobility. However, no further improvement has followed. Arguably, my condition is now getting worse. I have no idea what the final outcome is going to be. I just hope it's a curable and temporary condition. I've had x-rays and I am on medication. I just hope I have not crushed a vertibrae. My next appointment is in 2 days from now to review the x-rays. The doctor is going into his office on a Sunday as a special case for me.

I'll keep you posted with any new developments when I have something to report.

Until then, good gaming.

Lord Atton,
Your house is much more important than gaming projects. I hope you will manage to make a good price for it.

To all:
As for gaming projects recent discussions about Rhun and the rom2 reunion hat make me feel that we differ too much to work together on a NwN project. As an example, I would only work on a project if players are able to complete it soloing, without any help. I am already unable to get to the Forge in the Nova’s old Rhun module. So I would like to make that easier… Instead it becomes even harder.
Same with his Norwick approach. I asked numerous times to introduce better shops at low levels, to increase the droprate and make it level faster. Asked Defiant the same about shops and healing pods in his Reunion hat. But no, they see their own gameplay as standard, and try to create challenges for themselves… Understandable, yet for me a reason not to spend much time on such a server. Or cooperate on creating such a map/module.

I would like it if we could stick together, play the same games, work on the same projects. But as long as players only take their own skills as starting point, and try to increase difficulty for those, neglecting calls from other players to make gameplay different, while they themselves are unable to complete any other mod which slightly differs from their standards… Than this will not work out. I suppose some of us will keep working on their own projects, simply as a hobby. But I give it 1 year, 2 at most, than this is all over… Unless… Unless we drop our terms, stop working on projects only supported by 1 or 2 players, and start a open discussion about ideas we ALL share!

Gentlemen,

I started work on the GreenWorld Module some time back, but due to a number of reason and estate problems I had to stop.

I will pick up where I left off. That is my plan. Nova started modding Rhun and has done a great job with it. There is much more to do.

I generally like Rhun as a PW module and it is a good one to start with.

Albadaran your module is also a good one to start with. It has some unique characteristics in it.

I think Nova started with Rhun because he knew it pretty well and knew what items he wanted to fix.

The Forge is now using tokens and there is a Elite Guild for advanced chrs to join when you become Epic Level.

Yes we could work together on a module. I am in the process of selling my house and moving so until I get that done I am not taking on any more projects.

There is much open for discussion. As soon as I get moved and settled I would be happy to entertain some of those ideas.

Take Care

Than I probably misunderstood what you intended. I assumed you wanted to teamup and create a module different from Rhun. That was the reason for me anyway to start making a module: I did not want Rhun anymore. And still don't. Wanted to create an alternative. And still do.

That being said I would cooperate in creating a module if:

-its NOT Rhun.
-it uses Gray Fox' spell system
-it uses the random loot system from my mod
-either no forge or a public one available for everyone level 20 or higher (not hard to reach, no restriction but the level restriction)
-special horrorquest maps for level 35+ with high level rewards
-thats about it I think, if there is more I'll post it.

Alternatively it is possible to expand my module, but I'm not sure if Fox' magic system will work there.

Ok, in no particular order:

1. WHY RHUN -- because it is perhpas the largest and most complete PW module for NWN which is available to the "public". No more complicated than that. Why did YOU start with Rhun?

2. I never ASKED for anything -- If you read my post again you will see I asked NO questions in there. Rather, I simply posted my list of top items to alter. Specifically, things I intended to begin altering over this extended time off from work. I did this for two primary reasons. First, to gauge opinion of the proposed changes so in case anyone found a good reason NOT to do them, I didn't wind up wasting my time on them. Second, I listed changes publically hoping to drum up interest in PLAYING because the module would now be drastically different. Probably I was overzealous and posted far too soon. I should have just worked on them in private for a while first. My bad.

3. Why build on Rhun rather than your Allods module? -- Because your Allods is far too linear for my taste. That's not a knock. You created a very good Rage of Mages style experience using the NWN game engine. But I want a much more open playing field, something in line with a MMORPG environment. Granted, I would prefer to start totally from scratch, but I'm working solo here. In the best of scenarios, I estimate it would take 3-5 years to complete a module of the size and scope of Rhun (which I think is still too small, btw). So, reluctantly, I must start from an existing product and modify as best as I can.

A very generous offer! But why Rhun??
I notice NOVA is working on that module again. Asking questions about things I solved long ago in my own mod. Did anyone actually notice how the Room of Mirrors works? How the teleport crown works? How items can be upgraded without a complete forge? Did anyone think of how Gray Fox' magic system can be used outside Rhun? Why Rhun??? I've played many older games to know that there comes an end in replaying the same old maps under slightly changing circumstances. I porvided a setup for a new mod with Allods & Legends. Why still bother about Rhun than...

Here goes! I will offer to buy your NWN1 CD if you buy it and play on line my server or Nova's for 3 weeks and are Dissatfied with it.

I repeat. This offer is only for Rom2 players. You purchase NWN1 from Amazon ($10 bucks) and you develope a chr on my Green World Server ove r a 3 week period and if your unsatisfied with it I will buy your CD from you for the $10 you spent. Limited to 5 new users. Not the higher ended Diamond or Platinum versions.

Your really missing out on the best Rom2 type game out there. That is my offer. I can help you with your chr. There is the slightly modded version of Rhun running on my server. Pleanty of money and items. The Omega Forge is also there in a great quest. I challange any and all to play. Let see who have have the best chr in 3 weeks time.
